MOBIGLOBE 3.0 – FILM
MEDIA INSTALLATION – WOLFSBURG, GERMANY
Mobiglobe is an ongoing project developed for Autostadt GmbH. It was first made public in 2006 and has since been continuously updated. In its current iteration, it shows issues of global mobility and focuses on the dilemma between the automobile as an increasingly refined product and automobility as a transport system reaching limits both on the scale of the city (e.g sprawl and congestion) and the scale of the globe (e.g. peak oil, global warming).
The update currently being worked looks at mobility as the result of a systemic interplay between transport technologies, urban form, resource consumption and lifestyles. It aims to show that with increasingly limited space and resources, mobility can only be optimized when it is approached systemically. The solution to our potential mobility impasse is not more cars on more streets, but rather a comprehensive and coordinated approach to the system outlined above.
To show that such a future can be envisioned persons have been interviewed which deal with questions related to mobility in a holistic manner: the Smart Cities team at the MIT Media Lab under Bill Mitchell for new forms of transport (mobility on demand systems), Jaimie Lerner from Curitiba for efficient public transport in cities and a comprehensive approach to raising the quality of life in cities, Pooran Desai from Bioregional for One Planet Living Communities such as BedZed (focusing on lifestyle, not only the BedZed development itself) and Prof. Dickson Despommier from Columbia University for his concept of Vertical Farming.
The interviews have been fi lmed by a professional production company under our art direction, are being graphically illustrated and will be shown on an installation with 6 screens in a 360 degree arrangement.
