Hosoya Schaefer were a finalist in the competition for the Baufeld F in the Europaallee development in Zürich. 15 international teams had been invited for the first round. 5 teams proceeded to the second round. “Europahof”, the project by Hosoya Schaefer, was eliminated only in the very last round of jury deliberations.

The project brief envisioned 37’000 m2 of mixed use above ground, with offices, gastronomy, retail and two types of housing with 150 apartments overall. The project needed to conform to the Swiss Minergy P Eco Standard.

All projects are exhibited from April 20 – 29 at the Sihlpost – first floor, Kasernenstrasse 95, Zürich. [press release SBB]

«Learning from Tokyo» was a symposium and an exhibition in Zurich – organized by the «Learning from Tokyo» Group in cooperation with Architekturforum Zürich – that showcased small scale housing projects by young, creative architecture offices in Japan.

The symposium featured some of the protagonists of this new generation of architects and aims to establish a dialogue with Swiss architects, planners, city officials and the interested public. The topic contrasts two very different cities and cultures which in many unexpected ways still have a lot in common.

“Learning from Tokyo” is an exhibition and a symposium planned for spring 2012 in Zürich that showcases small scale housing projects by progressive architecture offices in Japan. The exhibition will focus on the quality and diversity of living space produced on small building lots with limited budgets in the center of a city such as Tokyo. The symposium will feature some of the protagonists of this new generation of architects and aims to establish a dialogue with Swiss architects, planners, city officials and the interested public. The topic contrasts two very different cities and cultures which in many unexpected ways still have a lot in common.

“Learning from Tokyo” is a not-for profit project by “Learning from Tokyo Group” initiated by Hiromi Hosoya and Markus Schaefer and established in 2011.

“Learning from Tokyo” received grants from the Japan Foundation, Sakae Stünzi Foundation and IKEA Stiftung Schweiz and is supported by ANA, All Nippon Airlines.
