Zoning plan change approved in Ljubljana

The city council of Ljubljana approved the new zoning plan for the city of Ljubljana (IPN). The Masterplan of the Smartinska Partnership prepared by Hosoya Schaefer in collaboration with the city, the private landowners and its team of consultants became law.

Opening Mobiglobe

Autostadt, the themepark and communications platform of Volkswagen in Wolfsburg, opened a new installation “Mobiglobe”. The project has been conceived and produced by Hosoya Schaefer Architects in collaboration with blm film production, Hamburg, Shiftcontrol Studios, Copenhagen, Buro Destruct, Berne and Autostadt. The installation shows mobility as the systemic interplay between transportation, city structure, resource flows and lifestyle. Sustainable mobility needs to be based not only on improved cars running on renewable energy or new solutions for public transport, but also on urban planning strategies, resource management and changes in personal lifestyle. Only when combining measures in all areas, mobility can be optimized. In the film, presented on six over-scaled screens arranged like the windows of a car, four visionaries are presenting their projects or concepts; interactive stations add detail and explain the defining parameters of each project.

Exhibition Station Area St. Moritz

The Rhaetian Railway Company in Switzerland announced the results of the test planning it commissioned for the area of the St. Moritz railroad station. Five international teams have been selected from a large group of applicants to prepare proposals for the development of the station which is part of the UNESCO World Heritage site “Rhaetian Railway in the Albula/Bernina Landscapes”. Hosoya Schaefer Architects, Zürich and von Gerkan Marg Partner, Hamburg have been selected to continue work on one portion each with the aim to define a final project as the basis for the future zoning plan. Hosoya Schaefer prepared their study project in collaboration with IBV Hüsler AG, Zürich, Müller Illien Landscape Architects, Zürich and Daniel Peter, St. Moritz. After the Airport St. Moritz, this is the second large scale project of Hosoya Schaefer in the Engadin valley.

Competition in Oslo

Markus Schaefer has been nominated as the head of the jury for an idea competition in Oslo held on the occasion of the Oslo Triennale. The competition “MAN MADE REFORMULATE” looks at how can architecture solve the challenges of tomorrow. “The intention of the competition is to challenge the participants on how to exemplify and illustrate policies on architecture, the relationship between architecture and politics, and how architecture can contribute in solving the challenges of the future.”

Exhibition in Ljubljana

The Slovenian Chamber of Architects opened and exhibition with architectural and urban design competitions of the last years. The exhibition opened on June 15 at the Museum of Architecture and Design, Castle Fuzine, Ljubljana. Hosoya Schaefer is represented with the Project Smartinska Partnership Masterplan, a 230 ha urban design competition, for which they received the first prize in 2008. Overall 109 competitions are shown.

“Statements on Innsbruck” at AUT

The AUT in Innsbruck invited three urbanists to give a statement on Innsbruck followed by a panel discussion. Invited were Markus Schäfer (Hosoya Schaefer Architects, Zürich), Djamel Klouche (L’AUC, Paris), Carmelo Baglivo (ian+, Rom) replacing Béatriz Ramo (STAR strategies + architecture, Rotterdam). The discussion was moderated by the bad architects group (Ursula Faix, Paul Burgstaller).

Since its founding in 1993, the Architekturforum Tirol has been organizing exhibitions, debates and lectures on local and international architecture.
