Hosoya Schaefer Architects receive an Acknowledgment at the Holcim Awards 2008 in Madrid for their Hypercore Office building in Santa Giuila, Milan, Italy. Almost 5000 projects from 90 countries were entered in the second Holcim Awards competition. From the official press statement: "The use of passive design elements, natural ventilation, and incorporation of public spaces was applauded for an Office building with green “hypercore” in Milan , Italy by Zurich-based Hosoya Schaefer Architects."

Hosoya Schaefer Architects is visited by one of the "Small Countries, great future" mobile workshops as part of the Cumulus 08 conference hosted by the Design School Zürich. The tour 'Futurum Exactum' organized by Basil Rogger looks at scenarios for the future.

Hosoya Schaefer Architects win first prize in the "Šmartinska Partnership" competition in collaboration with Space Syntax, London and Wüest & Partner, Zürich.
The task was to create a masterplan for the redevelopment of 230 ha in Ljubljana. This strategically important site
in Ljubljana stretches from the central railstation to the highway ring and, among other areas, includes BTC City, one of the largest retail developments in Europe.

Hosoya Schaefer Architects have been invited to participate in the competition 'Baufeld E' in 'Stadtraum HB', a development by the Swiss Federal Railway based on a masterplan by Kees Christiaanse. They also have been invited to the competition for a new building for the Engadin Airport.

"37 Gründe, liberal zu sein" is published, edited by Fulvio Pelli, the president of the liberal party of Switzerland (FDP). The book contains a spectrum of voices, liberal and critical, by authors such as Vaclav Klaus, Guido Westerwelle, Kurt Aeschbacher, Ruedi Noser and many others. Markus Schaefer contributed two essays and illustrations (#21 and 25).

Hosoya Schaefer is appointed as the architect of a 26'000 sqm office building in Sta. Giulia near Milan in addition to the new La Rinascente building. Sta. Giulia is a 1.2 mio. sqm development by Risanamento Spa. which is part of the Zunino group. The masterplan has been developed by Lord Norman Foster.

Anan, a Japanese Noodlerestaurant at the Autostadt in Wolfsburg designed by Hosoya Schaefer is completed. The project is based on a competition won in 2005. The design scope ranged from the architectural project, to media, identity and all the printed matter. The graphic concept has been developed with Lopetz of Buro Destruct in Bern. A range of young Japanese graphic and media designers contributed designs. Shiftcontrol, Copenhagen, was responsible for the media. [More]

Together with OMA's research branch AMO and Kram/ Weisshaar, Hosoya Schaefer Architects have conceptualised, designed and executed the Instore Technology. As project leader and director of AMO from 2001 until 2003, Markus Schaefer has been responsible for the Prada projects since 1999.

Opening of the exhibition ‘De Intense Stad’ at the city development office. Hosoya Schaefer is present with the Vondellaan high-rise project. This project, developed for Nijestee and BAM Woningbouw, comprises a gymnasium, a library, a school, a café, a physiotherapy center topped by 167 apartments on overall 31’500 sqm. The exhibition is accompanied by the publication of De Intense Stad: Vedichting en functiemenging in Groningen (Groningen: Platform Gras, Gemeente Groningen, 2004).

Hosoya Schaefer is published in ‘Das Magazin’, the weekend magazine of the leading Swiss newspaper Tages Anzeiger. For this issue that has been published in collaboration with The Economist, Hosoya Schaefer have produced a series of maps indicating current issues abroad and in Switzerland.
